FacePhi can verify your identity even with a mask on

FacePhi, a Spanish company specialist in biometric solutions for identity verification, has developed an algorithm capable of recognising the partially covered face of a person with more than 99% reliability. This technology has been designed to be activated voluntarily and with the prior authorisation of the user, facilitating safe access to data and activities by using the face as a key, even when the person is wearing a mask.

This recognition is possible thanks to software specially trained to focus on periocular biometry, the differential features that a face presents in the area around the eyes. Recognition failures and possible identity theft are thus avoided, giving more guarantees both to companies that use this type of technology and to the users themselves.

“Thanks to this evolution of Selphi, our face authentication program, better solutions can be found in healthcare environments or places where extreme hygiene measures are important. The use of this technology goes beyond the current coexistence with COVID-19 and can be a great ally for hospitals, clinics and laboratories, environments where the use of a mask is constant and contactless identification solutions are the most recommended for avoiding contagion,” the company explains.

Facial authentication as an ally for healthcare

Authentication or identity verification with facial biometrics continues to make advances as the safest access option for sectors where data protection and easy accessibility are vital, such as in banking or healthcare. After taking its digital onboarding and facial recognition services to more than 50 banks around the world, FacePhi has recently moved into the field of eHealth, integrating its software in the Kangbuk Samsung hospital in South Korea, together with NSSMART technology.

“Thanks to our developments, the patients at this hospital have swapped their health cards and the manual introduction of records for a facial recognition system with prior consent. This makes it possible to avoid medical insurance fraud, and offers a fast experience that greatly limits contact, something that, as we are verifying, will mark the future of healthcare. We continue working so that new applications, such as mask authentication, begin to be integrated in hospitals and health centres,” states FacePhi.
